Well, the expectation of artists performing on First Night at the Sydney Festival is constantly growing with reputation, I had assumed with the impressive line-up this year’s event was going to be pretty damn huge, infact truth be told, the word “huge” would be a monumental understatement, with the Domain actually being closed off as the audience numbers were too much for organisers to manage and control safely by 9pm… Which is a first for Sydney Festival!

Though much of that praise must lay in the talented fingertips of the delightfully beautiful Megan Washington who’s 60min performance was addictive to experience.

Just recently arriving back from a huge international tour, Washington memorised and captivated the colossal Sydney Festival audience with next to little effort, especially considering her uniquely adorable style. From the moment Washington embraced the crowd with her unique melodies, which by all accounts was a more relaxed set list than most live Washington performances, this was a delightful combination of song that was absolutely joyous to experience.

If the success of First Night wasn’t enough to celebrate the 7th of January holds another special event, this date also reigns as the birthday of Megan whom was excited to share this special event with a 100,000+ strong crowd, from the moment she shared the news with Sydney the packed venue quickly begun a celebratory birthday chant that could be heard from the packed Domain to Hyde Park, not such a bad experience to have on your special day with thousands of your adoring fans.

After a utterly exhilarating performance Washington stood at the edge of the Domain stage with delight while applauding Sydney, which in turn responded in kind with a standing ovation on what was a the beginning of a beautiful night in the old town.
