One of the bands I desperately have wanted to see since my return from Europe is Sydney’s own Slow Down Honey, I was reading event reviews of the band while in Poland and I was saying to myself “damn I need to see this group when I return home” and when I noticed the group was added to the Newtown Festival’s Essential Stage performers they were immediately added to my “too do list” and for very good reason because I witnessed and brilliant performance of dirty pop melodies that excited the hipster-esque Sydney crowd.

Slow Down Honey’s electric performance was filled with memorable highlights, vocalist Alex Bennison, Guitarist Tim John and bassist John Lamrock controlled the front of the stage with proficiency and prowess where drummer Lachlan West meticulously subjugated the crowds interactions with tightly focused beats from behind the kit over their thirty minute set list.

With well-known radio played song such as “one I know” the Newtown crowd danced their way into the early afternoon with complete enthusiasm as the audience of one thousand or more watched on. The happy poppy set received praise from many in the crowd whom were very gracious with their response to Slow Down Honey’s performance.

Make no mistake about it, Slow Down Honey are a band to keep a solid eye on over the next few years, their addictive urbanised smart pop rock style is enough to suit the most stubborn music fan. Slow down Honey was notably a huge highlight of the 2011 Newtown Festival’s performers and I look forward to attending another of their performances in the future.
